Its a shame Austin hates that turn and run, because it’s arguably the best run of his career, character and in-ring wise. Dude was just on one all year long till like December :wow:
It kinda came out of nowhere is the thing. The whole invasion angle swallowing up everything bogged it down too.

First and only match that came to mind. All those German suplexes :damn:
Imagine if they actually gave Benoit the strap in Edmonton :ohlawd:
The crowd would of became unglued. :blessed:

But still one hell of a match on free TV and Smackdown no less.
The irony is that on the next Raw, Paul Heyman said, "What kind of human being would give another man TEN German suplexes :damn: ?!"

shyt wound up being hilarious in two different ways :mjlol:

Though his 01 heel turn should’ve never happened, it allowed his character to have a lot more viciousness that he couldn’t have as a face. Dude was wrestling his ass off at that time

How Austin isn’t considered one of the best in ring talents is a travesty. He could go with anybody, wish that neck injury never happened because we missed out on some classics.

Prior to Summerslam 1997, he had a legitimate case as the best all-around wrestler in the Western Hemisphere at the very least.

SD always had a better atmosphere than Raw to me back then

It’s like the crowds were always louder (possibly due to being taped) but there was more focused on matches than promos

It also helped that SmackDown wasn’t presented as being inferior to Raw. It was an equal footing show, that happened to be taped. It wasn’t until 2004 where they were constantly pushing Smackdown as being inferior to Raw, when they were gutted in the draft that year.
