It was a time when I really wanted to see the good guy win, but it made sense in that HHH would stick around and put Reigns/Rollins/Ronda over the next few years and Sting was done, so putting HHH over made sense in that way. At least, if we're using the usual rules the internet likes to use for booking and not making exception because we hate HHH FOR REAL.
It didn't make sense how they shook hands at the end after Triple H had used a sledgehammer to win. Just left a confusing vibe, great match otherwise, but Sting getting a winning moment would have been better.

Sting should’ve won that match.. went onto disappear then challenge Seth as planned at NOC... lose that match... disappear.... reappear with the Brothers of Destruction vs the Wyatt Family at the SS that year where they’d give the Wyatts the rub.. then after the match Taker chokeslams Sting because they lost then he disappears again.... then shortly after the RR, vignettes appear of Sting along with imposters when Taker re-emerges leading to their WM match which should’ve been Sting’s last match

The fact that they kept selling it as "Sting's still bitter about WCW" when Sting went on Raw and said he wasn't made things even more confusing.
