Unions do offer something like that, granted it's for Building Engineers

Training Program
The Local 14 Training Program provides members with skill-advancement training through classes held at the union hall and the training facility in Montrose, New York, as well as hands-on practical supervised training on the heavy construction equipment maintained at the Montrose training facility. In addition, Local 14 has a DOL certified Apprenticeship Program wherein registered apprentices receive classroom, practical and on-the-job training. For information concerning the Apprenticeship Program or journeyperson skill advancement training classes, please contact Director of Journey Person and Apprenticeship Training, Stephen P. Nolan at (718) 939-0600, Ext. 126.

Lol.... STEM =/= shytty IT certs and anything related to trade schools. STEM refers to degrees like engineering, physics, chemistry, applied maths etc. It takes a lot of hard work and time to get these degrees so i don't get where the trade school idea came from.

As others have mentioned, the black American community really does not like nerds. Yes nerds of all races don't have it made, but it reallllllly sucks for black nerds in STEM. White nerds in STEM also have an easier time finding mates because nerds are not villified in their culture. Another thing, I have never in my life seen black American kids playing around with things like arduino, raspberry pis, or lego mindstorms(ir's usually Asian and white kids)... their parent's really don't want to raise scientists and engineers. African immigrants like Nigerians and Ethiopians don't really villify nerds though because they know the importance of STEM so they produce a decent amount of people in STEM.

I don't hate academics of any sort. I don't like how academics is being used to restrict people mentally instead of making people think with more creativity and innovation. STEM, on how it is being taught, is flawed. There needs to be a trade-school like atmosphere that is fiscally smart, where it can produce efficient workers and business owners, and all of that sort. You talking about PhDs, not just a 4 year degree.
We don't live in an economy that is friendly to people from trade schools. Ever heard of automation? It's here and it's spreading fast. cheers.

More black owned business are great!! But.....

folks are always talk bout owning a business, but what business will you open up if you dont even have any technical/in-demand skill?

just like how not everyone is cut out for STEM, not everybody is fit to be a business owner.

Point blank.

Not everyone has that entrepreneurial spirit, and as far as the black community is concerned, a lot of people don't even have access to the Wealth and resources to even START a lucrative business.

For those who lack the start-up cash, creativity and the entrepreneurial spirit, education beyond just a bachelors is the safest bet. After that, then maybe they can partner with some people who have more of that business-savvy mindset
let's open up liquor stores :troll:

Fam, read up on history, sociology, psychology and economics. You sound DUMB.
Actually, you are the one who sounds dumb. I honestly think that If black people had a culture that focused on STEM (like Asians) we wouldn't have these problems. Yes racism and white privilage exists, but STEM knowledge/STEM degrees make it hard to discrimintate. Did you know that the majority of immigrants go into STEM because they are less likely to come across discriminatory hiring in STEM fields? And before you say "focus on black business" and all of that hoopla you need to realize that having more blacks in STEM means more black businesses. What this thread has taught me is that black people in America, and possibly world wide (excluding countries like Nigeria,Angola,Botswana, kenya and Rwanda) are screwed. But hey, continue with your "Whoe needs STEM it won't help us" rhetoric:umad:

Fam,

Cacs who drop out of HS are employed at a higher rate and earn more than Blacks w/ degrees

Not everyone has that entrepreneurial spirit....well not everyone will find success in STEM. Inequality is a basic tenet of capitalism. Gain a skill or create a product, learn e commerce, become a contractor is as good a odds as attempting to find an entry level job.

I advocate ownership and black folk being entrepreneurial. Black folk need to branch out on their own, regardless of major in college, so that we no longer become corporate slaves.

Everybody supports ownership and entrepreneurialism, that isn't the point of contention, the point of contention is your absurd suggestion of STEM trade schools

Stop conflating degrees with STEM degrees, whites with hs diplomas do not make more money than blacks with STEM degrees

Dude every black person in america applauds anyone who excels academically. Of course there's gunna be people who make fun of smart kids but that across all ethnic groups and most people who make those comments are in the 13-20 age group anyway. I like I said before the lack of blacks in STEM is due to low exposure to STEM fields at a young age not because their parents don't want to raise scientist or doctors. I'm pretty sure those black kids that you never see messing with a raspberry pi or lego mindstorm is because they don't even know what the fukk it is genius. I never even heard of that shyt till I got in college.
