This disease is basically the deer equivalent of mad cow disease (BSE) which is another prion based illness that affects the nervous system. Humans can definitely catch prion related diseases and develop what is called variant crutchzfield jacobs syndrome, which turns you into a “zombie”.

Just talked to my bro. Didn’t know about the disease but he did. He said there has been confirmed cases in Tennessee which is where we hunt but all deer are tested for the disease and others when you take them to processing.
