Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
This is one of my all time-favorite movies. And is one of the FEW movies that was a favorite of mind as a child that HOLDS UP for COMPLETELY DIFFERENT REASONS as an adult.

:manny: we'll see how it goes I guess. I know that the source material is completely different from the movie, but the book is said to be fascist in nature, so of course Verhoeven had to make it more of a parody of those themes. I don't trust Hollywood pulling the satire off. Hell, they already fukked up Verhoeven's Robocop and Total Recall. Hell, a lot of these modern blockbuster movies embrace those themes without so much as a hint of satire or critique.

Imagine Zach Snyder remaking this....:laff:
i never knew the same man wrote all those classics :wow:

I really liked the original. Sucks that Hollywood cannot think of any original ideas and are stuck on remaking films.

Native of the NYC, getting fed in the Big D!
Verhooven has a satrical style impossible for today's hollywood to grasp, let alone emulate.
We saw how fukked up the Robocop reboot was, this will be the same if it is greenlit.
Emil gettin doused by those chemicals and lookin all melted and juicy :mjlol:

That's signature Veerhoven. Sick humor.

Same thing in Starship Troopers: "Medic!!!" :pachaha:

I never say this.

But I am 100% positive they can NOT do this right. Starship Troopers hit on so many levels. I just don't think any studio is capable of doing it right. This shyt would need to be directed and produced by the same crew that does Mr. Robot.

:mjcry: I feel the same way. I also wanted the movie to get legit sequels but the only one that came close to being worthy was the CGI movie that came out 2012.

I've not seen any of those early foreign language joints, nor have I seen his last two movies (I'd like to see Elle though), but that run from Robocop -> Black Book is pretty noteworthy. Robocop and Total Recall are classic 80's movies. I think that Robocop in particular is one of the most relevant movies you could watch today given our current policing climate. Total Recall still has people arguing if it was real or not, and is probably one of the better "virtual reality" movies. Basic Instinct might seem a little cheesy nowadays, but it's good campy fun and was somewhat groundbreaking at the time of release (It also made Sharon Stone a star for a short time). Showgirls is a legendary flop BUT even that has a bit of a cult following amongst those that love "so bad they're good" films. I already talked about my love of Starship Troopers. There are very few movies that I would sit down and watch at any given time over SST. Not saying it's without fault, but it's extremely engaging. Hollow Man is harder to defend, if you like those laboratory sci-fi/horror movies (I'm thinking The Fly, Splice, The Lazarus Effect, etc) like I do than it's really fun. Black Book probably doesn't mean shyt to most Americans, but it's like, the most successful Dutch movie ever , and was considered a return to form for him.

I wouldn't mind seeing him get a crack at a bigger budgeted film again.

Unless they bring Verhoeven on this is guaranteed to be garbage...you know what even if they bring him on it will be trash b/c it wont be rated R.

Man, being honest, one of the reasons this movie was so striking to me as a kid was because of that shower scene....:shaq:

I remember feeling like I was being let into something I usually wouldn't be when they just randomly threw casual nudity into the film....:wow:

You're right, they'll probably try and market this as "finally, a serious take on Robert Heinleins classic" but it won't be R-rated and it will be compromised.
