What was supposed to happen is that Rey and Finn are force sensitive and as they develop their powers together they get closer to one another. The reactions were probably so bad to that early trailer that hinted at that, that the writers and editors made changes and the actors signed NDAs so they can't speak on it. When you look at the two of them off camera during interviews and behind the scenes it was obvious there's some chemistry there.
