Rian Johnson's vision was never going to fly for a large portion of the fan base It's a shame, I would've loved a better prequel to VIII so shyt would've made more sense. Even though I really liked RJ's take, that shyt was not a sequel at all, and left the story limping for a third movie (it felt like chapter 2 of a 5 part story, not a trilogy), and with all the backlash it got. Going back to basics and fanservice is the smartest way to keep the franchise strong going into the Benioff and Wise "Old Republic" (or whatever they are gonna re-name the beginnings of the Force Era) series

Even though I loved were RJ took the Force stuff in VIII (and liked the movie better than VII), they clearly realized they needed to bring fan service back.

From the title, to Lando, to Kylo's helmet, to Palpatine. This was a good first step to ease all the anger, props to them
