besides his interview on the Tax podcast a few years ago and a couple trips down memory lane on YouTube, I really hadn't heard Star like that since he was on the radio damn near 15 years ago. Kinda just let him fade into obscurity for me, never checked out any of the shyt he did after Hot 97
A flood memories came back to me after the first 5 minutes of him being on this
As soon as he opened his mouth I damn near lost it
"You've been hanging in studios with rappers, yes?"
"You're a Drake fan, or a Drake stan, yes?"
"...rap music, or as you would say 'The Culture'
"
Just hearing him throw that YES??? on the end of his statements had me remember that constant aggression he brought to the table, something that's been missing and long forgotten about since I was in damn near High School. Even dude's he "fathered" like Tax and Charlemagne get nowhere close to the shyt Star was on
man just hearing his voice has me excited for all the fukkery that's about to go down. doesn't seem like he's changed at all. Still have no idea why Complex did this. In a world where everything is interpreted as problematic and the industry is as buddy-buddy as ever, with the melting pot of media outlets and labels (that fake little bullshyt beef between Migos and Buddens was corny) ... STAR is a dinosaur. I don't know what demo they're trying to reach with him. New Yorkers in their late 30s and early 40s?
either way, they pulled me in and got me subscribing. Akademiks is outta his league here
