Just had a thought that maybe off topic. But have you guys ever considered that intelligent life (like humans) might be rare due to the chaotic nature of the universe? You have blackholes, super giant stars, and asteroids all over the place. Not even the dinosaurs survived. The fact that we humans even exist is a miracle of itself.

That depends on what you define as intelligent life. You could argue that certain animals on this planet are more intelligent than we are.

I would argue that a humanoid type creature existing on another planet is unlikely. When you consider that the violent formation of our solar system and the 5 major extinction events on this earth led to our existence, it seems unlikely that the exact same thing would occur on another world. Plus our 'intelligence' has only been expressed over the last 50,000 years. That's nothing on a geologic timescale. I would imagine that there are creatures that exist on other planets that surpassed our intelligence millions of years ago. We are nothing more than ants to them.
