"According to a new report, a globular cluster of several thousand stars (compressed into a space just a few dozen light-years apart) is being thrown out of galaxy M87. The cluster, named HVGC-1, is traveling at a rate of 2 million miles per hour. The discovery was made by Nelson Caldwell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and his team while studying the space around the supergiant elliptical galaxy M87. Caldwell and colleagues think M87 might have two supermassive black holes at its center. The star cluster wandered too close to the pair, which picked off many of the cluster's outer stars while the inner core remained intact. The black holes then acted like a slingshot, flinging the cluster away at a tremendous speed."

The Universe is so vast man. I wonder if the life forms in that galaxy died as a result or they don't even notice the result.
If its not headed for earth, fukk outta here. :camby:

:heh: If it was would you even notice it?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? We may be already dead.

2 million miles an hour is slow enough to notice.

Oddly enough it is. 2 million miles an hour is roughly 555 miles a second. A fraction of the speed of light. If that object was at the distance of the sun it would take 46 hours for it to reach us. Space is fukking huge.

Yes, i just made that point to these clowns that dont know shyt about outer space. Imagine looking up seeing a ball of death coming towards us realizing in 30 years its going to kill you no matter what. The world would be chaos.

Dont matter how many rockets you smash that thing with, its trajectory cannot be altered. They'll disarm the world of rockets trying to alter that things trajectory :mjlol: n that star will swallow our most destructive weapons like :blessed: thank you i had an itch.

I wonder what type of effect an atomic bomb would have in space thousands of miles away from our atmosphere :gladbron:

I agree. Touching on your first point I think it's hard for humans to conceptualize the vastness of space. I think using terms like 'light years' is almost a disservice to the layman, because someone will hear 'it's only 4 light years away' and think "that's nothing". But if they heard 24 trillion miles they'd be like :merchant:.

Still how crazy would it be to see this pinpoint of light grow ever so slightly bigger each day and realize in 30 years it's gonna destroy the planet? :whoo:
