MAGIC: Van Gundy Relieved of Duties; Smith and Magic Mutually Agree To Part Ways

Orlando Magic Chief Executive Officer Alex Martins announced today that Stan Van Gundy has been relieved of his duties as head coach. In addition President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Otis Smith and the organization have mutually agreed to part ways.

I'm a fan of the Master of Panic. I don't think Orlando can lure an equal or better coach without a Dwight extension in place. Stan is good - and they'll hate life after him if they can't reel in a bigger fish.

Otis...awful awful GM. It's almost impossible to mismanage a situation as poorly as he did.

Well there goes my job opportunity with the Magic. I interviewed Otis' assistant GM, Dave Twardzik in Orlando a whiles back and he told me he'd look out for me. Oh well.

This was inevitable in many ways. Otis is a good guy, but as noted, mismanaged the situation..Stan is a good coach but Dwight is a ho.

what else were they gonna do?
