in interviews about Savage Journey, Stalley repeatedly talked about going for a different sound. I think it had more to do with the nikka getting big headed and not realizing what made people fans of him in the first place

There is nothing wrong with him going for different sounds on different projects, thats what smart and ambitious artists do to ensure their sound never gets stale. Curren$y does it all the time for example.
