Above the fray.
Liked early Roots records , but didn't like the tone of either of these songs.
Out rapping other rappers will always speak louder than soapbox standing.*

.

For the record, both groups did some of the very things they criticized on these songs.

Lol "snooty". Maybe hip hop should have been more "snooty" and we wouldn't have the modern landscape. Cats was trying to warn, but record label constant urge for profit took over.

Another classic trying to push back on the criminal rhyme take over.

They were maximizing profit back then too breh. If you can’t find “non-commercial” rap today that suits your taste then that’s on you. There’s enough bandwidth for all types of rap music.

But De La and The Roots ain’t have to take shots at their contemporaries who were legitimately dope artists. With all that said I LOVE both songs and albums

“See them Cubans don't care what y'all nikkas do/Colombians ain't never ran with your crew

Why you acting all spicy and shiesty?/The only Italians you knew was icees, nikkas price me”

Plug Two took a shyt on the whole Mafioso era lmaooo
