The financial security is the +1, that's why you get a player option in case of injury or things change so you can renegotiate a contract, or if you suck then you can just get that extra year of getting paid like Melo did. You risk LOSING money by not getting the big contract as soon as possible. He'll be 32 when this deal ends instead of 30 with a 2+1
