So she had no real dj skills?:ohhh:

damn.

She started messing with records and put herself out there as a DJ since the dude she was dating was actually a DJ. Hurby gave the original Spinderella the boot from the group and put her in.

Obviously at Salt N Pepa shows it wasn’t like she was gonna be cutting and scratching records while they perform over their own backing tracks. Hurby just needed that DJ image in the group on some RUN DMC shyt since it worked for them. Kid N Play didn’t need a DJ since they both rapped and were known for dancing.

I’m sure she knew her way around the turntables but she should’ve dived into that shyt heavy and tried to be the female Funk Flex but chicks like Jazzy Joyce and Beverly Bond would’ve run circles around her with the quickness.

I remember Rap Masters magazine back in 89 or 90 voting Spin and Wiz as the 2 worst DJs.

I can understand Spinderella being upset as she was just as important in the group's success. That's like making a documentary about N.W.A and not mentioning/downplaying Yella's role in the group's production. However, let's be real, Salt & Pepa are the two stars of the group, and everybody always remembers them as they were marketed as a duo. Spin, unfortunately, wasn't promoted by their label who probably felt she was just an expendable asset that can be replaced since she wasn't a producer but a standard cut & scratch DJ and there was a lot of em back then.

Now, help me figure out who the chick on the ladder was.

SnP (spin), KnP , Sweet T, Clark Kent, Amon-Ra, Dana Dane, (I think) Antoinette, Hurby and some staffers. Cannot figure out who ladder woman is.

Spin is/was beautiful so she added to the sex appeal of the group, but like you said she was just there because in that era the DJ was part of the act. Notice that DJ Whiz isn't in this photo , and that he fell back when KnP blew up.

I’m not sure who she is either but there needs to be whole Hurby thread. Dude had a legit squad around him and was responsible for a lot of great late 80s music that wasn’t Golden Age stuff and fit right in before the so called Early 90s harder stuff started to dominate.

I agree she could of easily learned how to make beats and start producing for other artist. Drop albums in the same fashion as Pete Rock and DJ Jazzy Jeff. She would of been way more relevant than Salt N Pepa.

Spinderella would still be relevant now if she was a real DJ and branched off into other things

Him and Kwame went behind the scenes and made some serious paper.
