Who did MJ block. It’s not like Malone or Barkley or anyone in the east won during the 2 year retirement in his prime.

Or before, or after.

The great Lakers, Celtics, and Pistons teams that dominated all the way until MJ was 28 all aged out (and MJ gets a pass for everything before 28 because Scottie and Horace weren't ready yet and Phil Jackson wasn't coaching yet). Hakeem's Rockets that rolled through the mid-90s didn't fit quite the same in any other year and couldn't even get there when MJ was ready. And the Duncan Spurs and Shaq-Kobe Lakers that dominated immediately afterwards were just babies when MJ retired.

Somehow, not having to face any of the all-time great teams in that span from 1992 to 1998 and beating a crew of perennial losers instead makes MJ that much greater. Or something.
