I basically been living in Japan for half a year for the last two years. It’s real nice and I have no fears.

Is it better than the US? I tell people this all the time. The US has three to five things going for it if you are American. Culture, language, convenience, “low” corruption, and economic mobility.

If you are cool with being an outsider, not knowing the local language, and not getting things instantly (Amazon or Walmart) you can live anywhere.

When I say low corruption I mean in many “3rd world” countries, you have to pay to play. I need to get my business license in Belize. I have to go up to the official “allegedly” and pay him on the side to get my paperwork approved.

In Japan, it seems to be tough to make 100K plus the taxes are “higher” than the US.

At the end of the day, I would love my family out here and possibly will next year.

We're one of the wealthiest countries on Earth and spend by far the most on the military. Priorities.

Define "wealthy". Any country/organization that is in alot of debt (bad debt at that) will never be considered wealthy. Their "priority" should be attacking this large debt instead of installing "social safety nets" that smaller countries have the luxury to do

I do the same and I've compared the avg middle class person in any of the countries I've been to lives better than middle class people in America. The people with jobs and low earners are happier than 100k-150k earners in America. The dilemma with western world is work and home life balance I know miserable people who make 200-350k a year in America and $300USD a month people overseas who are happy and content.

I don't know how to say this without sounding ignorant or offending people.......but here it goes :sadcam:

it seems people in the islands and Europe just live slow. I think those cultures play a part in to why people are or appear to be more "happy."

The U.S. is really built for the fast life. and its sink or swim. So if you can't move at that pace and really hustle you won't make it.

But the opportunity is there at least; and if you're built for it you can thrive.

The islands and Europe is so different. I was shocked when dinner is like a 3 hour thing :russ:

Everyone also parties all the time. It just feels real care free. :wow:

parties seem to never end......:blessed:

The crux of it though in foreign places is that it seems like there isn't really much emphasis on ownership at all. :lupe:

It almost feels like a lot of people are just content with wherever they're at and just go through the motions.

In the US a lot of people are aiming high and really hustling running and gunning for upward mobility(the real hustlers with big dreams)

There just isn't time in the US to live the laid back slower lifestyle.....you won't get anywhere. :manny:

I think its a combination of personality/ambition/culture.

I personally like the rat race of the U.S.

Not sure if this makes sense; just my interpretation.

You are wrong about ownership most people I've come across have rental properties and invest in projects that give them back returns. They don't brag and flaunt like western world people do. I've seen millionaires drives pretty basic cars and dress casually were you wouldn't know how much money they sitting on. The average working man who works 40+ hours will tell you the same. The society is setup for burn out and once these people lose a job due to lay offs or health matters its pretty much where it all begins.

That hustle and work life ruins families and is what leads many down the slope of mental health and substance abuse for millions in America. I worked in corporate America for 10+ years I've been around people who have money and 90% of them were miserable battling martial issues, substance abuse or lost their minds.

Can you be more specific? I only know the islands and Europe like that.....where I've been told its very difficult to actual own anything.

I know a lot of people who "owned" property that was easily stolen in the islands.

and in Europe they act like renting is the only way.

My experiences come from the countries below. We are talking about two different things you are speaking about Europe and Carribean Islands which is what I'm not referring to.

Africa- Nigeria, Ghana, Morocco and South Africa
Asia- Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
Middle East- UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
South America- Colombia, Chile and Brazil.
