Yeah, I was homeless for a couple of months in my early 20s. Always had at least a couch to sleep on but that gets old quick.

Put my head down, extinguished my pride, and went to work in the labor pool system. Found out what steady tickets were, prioritized that, and was basically working 2 jobs through 2 different labor pools until I was able to stack the money properly to afford a weekly hotel room and fresh clothes for interviews. Worked 2 jobs and a third through the labor pools until I had over 5 thousand in the bank. Tried the roommate thing, decided having my own place was worth it and have had my own place ever since.

One thing I will say, if you're homeless, be cognizant of that fact. You need to hang around other homeless people/communities until you level up. There are resources in poor neighborhoods, and churches are always doing pop up food spots.

Also, there's no reason for sleep if you have no bed. Stay the fukk up and go to work. I can't stand seeing homeless people laid out sleep at 11am in the morning. What are u tired from? Wake your sorry ass up and go to work

It took 2 months.
There was the certification tests and everything with the state of New York. and that was online with J&D Banker software,
Then after I got certified, I got the job. And then I was a certified Life & health insurance agent peddling group employment insurance plans to small businesses.
:mjlol:
I made enough money from the AFlac job to start a pop up boutique as a hustle then used the rest to get a palce.
I deadass did it all in the dining room of the Burger King on Myrtle and Knickerbocker.
I even used the bathroom there to change into my suit to take the J train to go to Wall Street
I was homeless for 8 months total

but that was one of my biggest wake up calls ever. Thank god I ain't down bad like that!@
:whew:

went back to Pittsburgh to visit family after me and my roomates moved out of our apartment on 170 Harman Street.

I was in Pittsburgh from September to December of 2014. It was boring and the job prospects simply were non-existent for Black Men. I tried to find a job to make some money to go back to NYC with and there wasn't much...so rather than stay with such low job prospects and all of my friends gone...I decided to just take my luck in NYC since there was more opportunity there and all my friends and support system (currently) were there.

So New years 2014/2015 I drive up to Brooklyn to meet up with my friends at Bossa Nova Civic Club and slept that night in my car...I didn't give a fukk.
Those people were not your real friends if you moved to their city and ended up homeless. Always have some savings or a job ready on deck before you move to a new city.

The one thing about being homeless I hated was just the waiting and trying to pass time.
And the stress and toll it takes on your whole everything...mind...body...soul.
Waking up and having to find something to do...then trying to find work.
Then trying to figure out where to sleep for the night.
I fell into a real deep depression.
When you're homeless, you feel like the most hated person in the world.
I still got a lot of resentment built up from then cause that made me realize how people (especially Americans, really are)
They don't even want to help you...they'd rather you just die off or go away instead of making them uncomfortable.
A friend of mine I knew from grade school REFUSED to help me out with even $5 dollars even when he had a cushy office job making a salary.
That was the end of our already strained friendship.
And he told me not to call him and talk about stuff like that, and talk about something else.
He really revealed himself to be a fake.

Certain situations show you who's down and who's not.
With that said, I have to thank the friends of mine who held me down when I was struggling.

I didn't even tell anybody I was homeless...I was so ashamed. I felt completely villified. Dehumanized.
But it also hit me with the reality of how America does NOT give one single FFUUCk about Black People. Especially Africans.
So many people just saw me as just another homeless & mentally ill Black man the amount of people that just avoided even interacting with me when I was just doing NOTHING but trying to find work or pass the time when I was looking down and out...it never leaves.

At one point I legit felt like jumping off the Williamsburg Street bridge.
Homeless in NYC, getting discriminated against for jobs that I needed to make money, two useless degrees from Pitt.
It felt like I was failed by so many people. There probably wasn't any lower I could go.

To this day, I kind of admit, those situations built me up to become a tougher individual...a smarter individual...a better individual mind you...cause I knew I had to depend on myself.
Because you shared alot of your personal info on here imma just throw this question out there.

It's been noted both your parents or one of your parents is a doctor? Is that accurate. We're you cut off? Or you was tryna prove a point you can live on your own without help.

BTW, I don't expect anybody to come in here OP.
Even though Black people make up almost HALF of the homeless population in America (despite being roughly 12.6% - 14% of the population)
Everybody on the coli is team 6 certs 6 figs 6 houses...
they gonna pretend like this thread doesn't exist until it goes off the first page

Grim reality but I am unashamed to tell the gospel. Hell, I been through some of the worst years in my entire existence just to make something happen, but I have no regrets. I know how to survive in these dire moments. Just tonight, wife, son and I used the last of the six dollars we had to get three canned meals. Wife enjoyed the chili, I got my tamales, and the son got his usual beeferoni. Its not the "best" meal but it's edible. Its the price to pay in order to get where you need to be. shyt, just yesterday my family and I were assed out in a car trying to figure out what to do next because her job goofed on the transfer to relocate to a different center.

Did they give a shyt? No!

Do we have family to help us in our darkest moment? LMAO

Did we survive? Yes with the help of my wife's friend whose more of a sister than her own fukking sister.

Right now, I can say in The Coli outside of this "gimmick" that I am homeless but not broken. I shed the tears I shed, I broke down and damn near was going to kill myself but on what grounds?

  • A fatherless child
  • A widowed wife
  • The uncertainty of a future
  • No more mating seasons
  • No gaming
  • Not seeing my true purpose because I succumbed to the hardships of reality.
At the end of it all. I will make it through, we all will make it through (Coli brehs that are in the struggle that's not big dikk, big money, big guns gang). Its just one day at a time with this shyt. Hell, for all I know I will be in a legit pad, finally becoming the writer I need to be, and finally travel outside of this shytty country in a instant, but the dream is still there....just put on a slow backburner until the timing is accurate.

damn man salute those that went or are going through homelessness.

I worked at a grocery store for a month and was disgusted with how much good food was thrown out. like chicken and fresh fruits/veggies.

I hooked people up at GNC tho when it was time to throw shyt out.

Oh I make good money now. My situation has improved greatly since then.

I moved from NYC almost 4 years ago to Denver (technically Glendale, but my mailing address says Denver). But after that in 2015, I was doing rental management for a bit in bushwick.

i wad trying to do the DJ thing out there but there was so much competition and that was really why moved out to New York City for music.

I knew it was going to kind of be a rough time so I was prepared to sleep in my car, I was prepared to do some stuff like level down my living situation but it worked for the best.

I got a 1 bedroom here in Denver with a balcony (that I like to chill on and eat meals after cooking in my kitchen and smoking blunts since weed is legal here lol) in a building with a gym and a pool and I could never imagine that in all my time in New York and I'm been doing the DJ thing out here with more success than in New York.
:blessed:
I was working for a moving company and making good money doing that. enough to chill for a while at work on my own music (which I've done).

One thing about building character is that it comes from adversity, and there's nothing like a situation like being homeless. As terrible as it was at times, that will build character up for you. And I think that was the one thing I carried from that situation that's helped me out in life.

Never get too comfortable because you never know what is coming around the corner.

Yes. I voluntarily gave up my apartment for over a year in order to stack my chips for a down payment on my first house. I was so ignorant, I only thought combat vets and retirees qualified for VA loans. I slept in my car and paid a monthly membership for about $20 at the fitness center to wash my ass anytime I wanted. They even had washer/dryer combos the staff would let me use there.
