Jamaicans didnt invent dreads. They simply made it popular.
Look, trends and religion are bound to be copied in all cultures. It doesnt make sense not to IMO. Not to me. Thus why it never makes no sense to me when black americans complain about whites copying their styles and cultures. YOU SHOULD want to influence others. Now... taking ownership and trying to act like you came up with it to take the credit is another thing.
The dreads trend was spinning out of control in the U.S. When that sh!t got out of hand i cut all mines off back in (i think) '06-'07.
Anyway i never cared for the way most black americans wear dreads. Black americans are extremely conscious about their appearance and like things to be super neat when it comes to fashion and hair-styles. See the super clean white sneakers and cornrows etc. But with dreads, that sh!t just looks gay as fukk because mofos twist their sh!t way to much and way to tight to the point where you can see their scalp.
I just never liked that. Just my personal taste. The few times i would have someone twist my dreads and some would make it too tight and neat for my taste i would run home immediately and wash my hair and purposely cause some fuzziness. I had dreads for about 7 years (after i left the army) and probably twisted them maybe once or twice a year.
I know people who do their sh!t every month if not sooner
The few that do use and embrace the "neglect method" for their dreads tend to (unfairly) be viewed as thugs or whatever. I mean i get that to Americans, dreads are just a style. Thats fine. BUt the overkill is what drives me crazy
