spike lee has like 4 good films though…. this 4 are pretty special though. Do The RIght Thing is perfect as far as i am concerned. 25th hour has started to pick up esteem in recent years. havent seen Malcolm X in a minute but that shyt was a bit tooooo literal for my tastes but it works as far as time spanning epics go. and Inside Man showed he could do studio genre fare.

kubrick is a mount rushmore type entity so the comparison is silly. no disrespects to spike though.

He's one of our most important artist...so of course he's been torn down in the public sphere.

Can't compare these two, Kubrick is a top 5 Director of all time. Though some of his shyt is overrated, 2001 alone puts him head and shoulders above Spike. Spike 2nd tier Goat, nothing wrong with that

spike at his best is a legit great filmmaker. i would love to see him do more studio fare, cause i think sometimes working in that discipline can erase some annoying quirks when left to ya own devices. like i hate the jazz scores in his movies, they over bearing as hell. shyt ruined clockers for me. should have been allowed to do inside man part 2 but whatever. and spike lee is gonna go down in history, black and white, as a legend in his own right. and again, do the right thing is a perfect black movie, or just a perfect movie period. everything we talk about in terms of identity, politics, how to portray black lives on screen, he perfected it in that film. in many ways its like nas couldnt repeat the greatness of illmatic, and spike couldnt repeat the greatness of do the right thing.

One thing about Spike though, I've never seen an uninteresting film from him. Even ones I don't like that much have had something I like about them, or are creative. She Hate Me is a good example of this.
