So just cause a movie got a low score on RT means it shouldn't of been made? Red Tails got made cause Lucas had to folk the bill due the fact he couldn't get funding cause of Racism. This man said it, "They would not fund Redtails cause it was an all Black cast". Those are his words. Historical War Films flop all the time yet they are still getting greenlit, fact of the matter is this. Hollywood systematically does not want to tell uplifting stories about Black History. Look at Glory, it was a good film but it was told through the white commanders perspective instead of the slaves. Again I'm not going to get into a whole debate cause if dudes are going to defend Hollywood bias ways then forget it. History is my witness.

but ultimately people didn't fund it because they thought it wouldn't make money, and it didn't. OG Money-Bags funded it himself, and had to fall back and sell Star Wars [/half-joke]

Again you are saying this as if every movie greenlit from hollywood is a block buster and makes money. Plenty of White Historical films flop, Plenty of films with White leads flop yet they still get greenlit. If the excuse is "Let's not make any films dealing with Black History cause White people won't watch it" then that's a problem.

a movie doesnt have to be a blockbuster to make money. also when a studio produces a blockbuster it allows them to take other risks. 1 huge blockbuster can subsidize several "flops." still, its never going to be good business to produce films that don't have some potential to make money.

but again, the country is 80% white, so what do you expect from hollywood? if you really examine the black demographics, really if you want to cater a film to the black audience it makes the most sense to target the black female, who actually has significant buying power. black men unfortunately just don't have the power of their dollars on their side. that's why most of the black entertainment thats produced today usually panders to black women. its all in the numbers, dudes just want to believe its some conspiracy. :mindblown:

investing in a movie is always a gamble. but it becomes more of a gamble with bigger budget movies

there's plenty of stories to be told, that may or may not interest certain people. but when it costs $100 million to tell your story, other factors come into play, like the 'mainstream appeal' of the story

:usure:..white people are usually the hero/savior/mentor in a film even when they are surrounded by black characters...

I disagree. Most films with a mostly Black cast barely have white people in it except for satellite or villain roles. they usually have someone who is Black but 'older' in the mentor role.

Just a movie :what:
Was "Birth of a Nation" just a movie, was "Sex in the City" just a tv show?
Media influences our society greatly, see how folks wear stuff they see rappers wear or what's in tv/movies/etc. A movie like Django sends a message that blacks need that white savior in order to achieve success. Trust, just because it's a slave killing his former master doesn't mean this is an empowering film. Aside from that, this film is from a director who frequently throws shots at black folks, so Django is not just a movie :stopitslime:

Its true movies have influences......but I really dont have a problem with the premise of this movie...I have to see the movie first to see if I get the message that you are saying the movie gives.....until then I'm holding all judgment

LOL, It's like your saying "What do you expect from Hollywood so don't complain". If Blacks in America thought like that we would still be in chains. So again you are saying that Black Historical Films should never be made cause the Country is 80% White. So I guess Jewish Historical films should of never been made right cause of this same reason? Steven should of never done "Schindler List" right? Shoot Steven shouldn't of made "Amistad" based on that logic.

Spike should of never made "X" cause the country is 80% white right? There should of never been a film about "Ghadi" right? The Logic doesn't fly. If this was about money, like I said tons of White History Films flop including certain films about war. This has nothing to do with a "Conspiracy" the proof is the pudding. Hollywood has been racist forever you making it like this isn't already a historical fact. Using the "It doesn't make money" excuse doesn't fly.

:whoa: youre missing my point bredren. what i'm saying is hollywood is basically all controlled by jews and whites. the country itself is 80% white. the only prominent black film maker who is funding his own films and releasing them on his own is tyler perry, and he caters his films to black women.

there is this mentality that white hollywood should do something for black people to release black historical films... why? what's the incentive for them? when guys like spike lee do movies like malcolm x, its a struggle, but he made that happen and no doubt it was struggle for him. so again, i'm saying what do you expect when you relying on hollywoods funding, and distribution machine, considering the makeup of hollywood and the country? you think they should just be nice people and do something for the blacks every once in a while? :rudy:

Trust me, I already know how it is with Hollywoood bias. But the broader question is how are we going to change it and when are more people going to speak out and see the Bias for what it is instead of just saying "Oh well, this is how Hollywood is". I'm glad George Lucas spoke out on this cause if Spike said the same thing (As he has in the past) he would of gotten crucified in the media.

I agree the Black power brokers in Hollywood need to come together so we can get our own stories out but it's not as easy as people think it is. Movies cost a lot of money. Again my frustration is Hollywood racism continues and the more people just accept it, the more it won't change.
