that was the point, they were trying to break down peter and sell ben. everyone hated peter during this time. shyt became so obvious that they kinda ruined the swerve cause everyone saw it coming

I still think this storyline was a good idea with good moments that was executed horribly due to editorial decisions to stretch it waaaay too long. if you wanna make spider-man a single guy again this is a better way to do it than having the devil erase your relationship or whatever the fukk that story was

this blog is a really good retrospective of the entire story with commentary from people who actually wrote it. also funny to note that even though everyone claims to hate this story it was doing big numbers during its run

I never took an in-depth look of the history so I'll visit the link at some point. Props.

I will say, from outside looking in, the issue was always that a lot of Spiderman fans were guilty of "i want my cake but I want to eat it too" syndrome.

Peter supposed to have near Reed Richards level intellect, is married to a known super model, and one of his best friends is Johnny Storm from a billionaire celebrity family...

...and yet they still want him to be a down on his luck broke cameraman at 35 years old living in a shyt apartment or his aunty's house....

I think Marvel botched the execution of clone saga but I *get* what they were trying to do.
