How does Sony have the rights to spider woman? She has nothing at all to do with the spider family
She first appeared in a Spider-Man book therefore they can claim ownership
Could have marvel claimed sabertooth since he appeared in an iron fist book? What about wolverine?
Idk how it works at that point. Let me rephrase:
when marvel sold their characters to Columbia in the 80s/90s, spider woman was probably a part of that deal. Wolverine was definitely a part of the deal when they sold the rights to X-men because he was the crown jewel.
most or all of these agreements go back decades
Which Spider-Woman?
Jessica Drew first appeared in Marvel Spotlight and for the longest time had almost zero connection to Spider-Man.
Julia Carpenter first appeared in Secret Wars and also had almost ne connection to Spider-Man. She could actually be considered an X-Men character considering she was part of Mystique's Freedom Force in the X-books before joining the Avengers for a brief time.
Mattie Franklin first appeared in Spectacular Spider-Man and was a Spider-Man supporting character from jump.
They seem to have started moving Jessica Drew into more of a combo Avengers/Spider-Man supporting character the last few years though.

Whether cats like it or not, Sony was the first to make a Blockbuster Marvel Joint in the OG Spiderman. And 2 was one of the best comic movies point blank. To act like the MCU doesn't have meh joints is past ridiculous dog.
I don't think it works like that. Monica Rambeau, Cloak & Dagger and Punisher all first appeared in Spider-Man books
They probably just got her along with Spider-Man because of her name. Marvel really only recently tried to connect the main universe version to Spider-Man

The first X-Mem movie did blockbuster numbers & paved the way for that OG Spiderman movie to do even bigger blockbuster numbers. Give credit where it’s due.just like Venom right?

X-Men wasn't NEARLY the megahit Spidey was (but I do agree X-Men was a huge hit that did open the door). It did 820 mill back in 2002 (tops over a billi today easy). OG X-men did 300 mill (which was great for tha time, but 820 is a whole nother level).
