Spider-Man: Miles Morales Game Tanks; 70% Drop

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Game Tanks; 70% Drop
Following Marvel's The Avengers, now the Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales video game has tanked completely as it sold 70% less than the first game.

The sales info comes from Super Data, a Nielsen Company, who reports the numbers where the first Spider-Man game sold 2.2 million copies at launch, but Miles Morales only sold 663k:

Spider-Man: Miles Morales sold 663K digital units across PlayStation 4 and 5. Sales of the Sony-published title did not compare to the launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man in September 2018 (2.2M).

The Spider-Man: Miles Morales game didn't even make it into the top ten for the month of November, and according to the charts, sold less than Marvel's Avengers, which is a disaster as well, as Marvel's Avengers is confirmed to be losing money and players are leaving in droves, so just imagine how bad it must be for the Miles Morales game.

Fans want original characters, not replacements
While the site and some other gamer sites try to make excuses that sequels don't always perform the same as the first game's release, I don't think that is the case for the Batman Arkham games or games such as Call of Duty or what have you, and even if so, a 70% drop is huge -- that means 70% of those gamers that bought and played the first Spider-Man game chose not to buy Miles Morales. 70%.

What I find interesting is that both Marvel's Avengers and the Miles Morales games feature politically correct replacement characters for the much more popular Marvel characters, as Marvel's Avengers features Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel (who replaced Carol Danvers) who basically replaces The Avengers, and of course, for the Spider-Man game, Miles Morales is a Peter Parker Spider-Man replacement.

What typically happens, and we see this in Hollywood all the time, is that story and content are sacrificed in order to push a politically correct-driven agenda that backfires completely (Disney Star Wars, Doctor Who, Supergirl, Terminator, Ghostbusters, etc).

Is this supposed to be a big deal?

I'm not very surprised about the sales. It definitely suffered from the console itself, and its shortages, getting all the limelight. On top of that, the game people seem most focused on at release was Demon's Souls and even Astrobot.

Yeah I think that the Miles Morales marketing being to tied to the PS5 hurt sales due to the PS5 shortages. For the longest time I thought Miles Morales was going to be a PS5 exclusive because the marketing talked very little about being on PS4. For a few days you could only pre-order MM on PS5.

long term it will be fine
this will be the go to game to buy once people are able to obtain a ps5 along with the other exclusives that will release next year
they wasted the technical capabilities of the game for the ps4
why would you want to play the ps4 version if the ps5 version is a lot better?
a lot of people also thought and still think it's ps5 exclusive
hopefully horizon and some of the other cross gen games announced (kena, solar ash, etc.) are the last cross gen exclusives outside of the inevitable tlou2 factions

I'm letting the credits play when all of a sudden my game makes a loud buzzer noise and my controller stopped workin :damn:. I had to unplug the power from the back.
That happened to me also, but I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. After that It never happened again.

Yeah, I deliberately held off buying the game on PS4 because I want to buy it and play it on PS5 eventually.

I think ultimately the game came across like an overpriced DLC. The marketing started off hype when it was first announced but then it became a bit confusing with some double talk or several "clarifications" as to what the game was or wasn't... and then by launch early reviewers talkin about it's just an 8'ish hour game.

To use Hollywood lingo, at that point i felt Miles Morales lost the mystic of an "event movie" (unlike TLoU2, GoW, FF7R, Spiderman, etc) and ppl were like ehh, i'll get around to the spider-man dlc when i get around to it... or i'll just wait until the "real" sequel comes out

I went back to the remaster to finish the dlc and rush 100%

It's really a step back compared to Miles, the camouflage and venom punch makes miles a lot more fun

They gonna have to give peter some symbiote suit upgrades next game cause playing as regular spider man is trash now
While I had a lot of fun with Miles power's it almost felt too easy. I think I enjoy Peter's gadgets and suit power's more.
