Ain't no way 7 farmers is worth the life of one SEAL from a military investment/training standpoint.
Does anyone know how many defenders were located in the position? Was it just 7? Obviously, if was like 20-30, that might be different, but if it was just 7, someone fukked up.
A broken clock is right twice a day....
Gun fights are dangerous, no matter who's behind the trigger. Its sad, but not all that surprising.
Also, SOCOM is stretching these SEAL team units very thin. They hardly seem to use the other units for things like this anymore.
Detachment-D, PJs, MARSOC, Special Forces, etc..
Leave the SEALs for the Bin Laden-type operations.
Agreed, but if you look at thier options they've got either the Seals, Force Recon, or Delta. ODA (Green Berets) are more specialized in asymmetrical warfare, and PJ's are rescue troopers. Despite what they'd like you to believe, SEALS are actually the most publicized of the bunch. Force Recon, and Delta is much more secretive. I can only imagine that Delta, or whatever they're called these days, is doing just as much, if not more than the SEALS. Their operations just aren't nearly as public. When a Delta soldier dies, noone even knew he existed to begin with. If I remember correctly the US still doesn't even technically recognize that Delta exists.
When it comes to smash and grab jobs, the SEALS are the go-to guys.
