is Joburg really as dangerous as people say

could a white american male walk around downtown and side streets alone there?

One thing about white South Africans, especially those who were old enough to know, is that they are not afraid of black people...

If you are in a normal everyday setting, then you don't need to be afraid...

Also, a black person is more likely to harm another black person than someone from a different race...

I may give it a try whenever I get the chance, I can drive manual but even that would be kind of funky shifting with my left hand. You got anymore pics? I remember you hit me up a few months ago about traveling by yourself :salute:

I have more pics but they are more of the same. Go ahead and give it a try its not that bad at all. Just get a automatic. Warning thought you def need to book the automatic before u arrive in the country or you won't get one. Seems like a lot of the countries I've been to have mainly manual cars.

If I didn't have a car in SA my trip might of been a bust.

I just got back from South Africa a few days ago. Don’t know if anybody remembers but I made a thread about it a month or 2 ago asking for advice on what to do while I’m there.

The places I visited were Joburg, Kruger National Park, and Capetown. I also went mainly by myself, but I did stay with a friend for a few days who was working in the country.

The way I got around this was a site called couch surfer. I found a dude on there that was willing to show me where the good clubs were and this pretty much set up my whole trip. The women in Joburg :wow: The one thing that will work in your favor in Joburg is like half the dudes there are gay, the other half pretty much have no swag whatsoever. I ate pretty good in Joburg.

The food was good but it wasn't nothing that really blew my mind. I might not have went to any official places though.

1. Yes I'm black....guess my avi didn't give it away

2. They were pretty nice out there. Didn't run into any problems being an american.

4. I didn't really approach any coloured women and unlike the lot of you...i'm not attracted to most white woman :scusthov:

5. Actually during the first 2 days I arrive...I didn't see many stunners during the day so I wasn't expecting much. But at night when you go out to the spots...they were official.

That is just what I experienced brother. I only went to Rosebank twice and some club on Rinovia road while in joburg. Maybe gays run rampant in Rosebank I dunno.

So would you live there?

When I went it was almost 10 years ago, and my answer then would have been "Hell no", wondering if it has changed enough in that time period for Americans to want to live there.

What parts were you in when you went?

I would probably live there. Don't know if I would permanently but I'd give it a few years. Its still some things I'm not too sure of such as the crime/rape rate that makes me uneasy about raising a family there. But as a single man it shouldn't be an issue.

Yea Durban might be on my list for next time if I have time. How does it compare to Joburg/Capetown.

I did Capetown/Johannesburg as well, people told me I should have hit up Durban though.

Yeah, the sexual assault there is crazy, and I'm not single so looking for places where rape isn't looking like Babe Ruth stats is a priority.

South Africa was the shyt. I went 3 years ago for the World Cup. I was in Cape town & port elizabeth. Definitely wanna visit again to see what it's like without all the world cup theme around and hit up Durban next time as well.

felt inadequate as shyt though at times. A lot of people there who can flip back & forth speaking b/w 4 or 5 different languages with ease apart from Afrikaans. shyt was just :wow:

I always feel like that when I travel. Seems like everybody else can speak multiple languages when I only speak one. I am in the process of learning Portuguese but its so hard.
