what will happen after south africa wins their case? will the ICJ be able to do anything and if they can't what will that mean for future "trials"?

Likely nothing since none of the major players in the UN would suppprt it.
Maybe a ramp up in pressure that could lead to a ceasefire or new negotiations.
Actually, its quite likely that every major player in the UN would support it, save for the U.S., Germany, and Israel would support it.
Now, a U.S. veto dooms anything substantive, but "UN Determines Israel's Actions in Gaza Constitute Genocidal Intent" is quite the global headline to have.
so just like the ukraine-russia judgement then: binding on russia, but not enforceable.

It will put America in a bad spot. How are we going to take Russia to task for crimes in Ukraine when/if we just ignore a legal preceding finding war crimes just because we don’t like it?

no one is taking russia to task, they've ignored the ICJ and I suspect israel will do the same.

All those oligarchs losing property to pay Ukraine would beg to differ.
Putin will never be able to set foot in Europe again.
It doesn’t matter if Israel ignores the ruling. It matters if America does. We are the ones supplying weapons. The ability of the US to rally allies for a cause will be called into question. Especially with tensions rising with China and Taiwan.
