Why you say that. He actually wanted this since the Syria situation. He is trying to show the world that Russia is a leader again.

I look at them as a wildcard in this. They've got legitimate beef with the Russians over Crimea going back decades, especially during the Soviet era. They could either be an ally for the new regime in Kiev or as a Muslim group could link with the Chechens and try to get into some terrorist shyt. Personally, I'm going for option three and say the Russians will subdue them as always. But the elements are there to raise hell, if it happens I see them aligning with Kiev before Chechnya.
The funniest thing about all this, is that the West is gettin a huge burden(and bill) having to take on Ukraine now. As if reigniting old cold war gripes wasn't enough.

i wouldnt put it that way at all, russia already lost in both georgia and ukraine already, putin is just fighting for the scraps, the scraps being specific regions with a large russian population
