Do women even know who these characters are? Most casual spider fans don't and all those properties listed had a strong female backing before the jump to the big screen. I doubt if we made a "where's arana" like picture with spider people they would know who we were talking about, let alone find her.

Why doesn’t Sony just hire good directors?

it won't matter if you keep making movies featuring characters that are not a-list. or even b-list in this case.

marvel is dealing with a much less extreme variation of this same problem, and i always felt like their arrogance was showing with some of the recent movie/show choices. you can't just put your most important IP on the sideline to introduce new characters with a proven history of being significantly less popular. it doesn't work. not if you want to maintain the success of your biggest movies. it's why i think secret wars will introduce new versions of cap, iron man, etc.

sony either needs to introduce their own spider-man and let marvel have tom holland, so they can stop making these dumb-fukking movies as standalones. or make them on a budget to minimize losses.

Barbie as a movie I would say set a trend on its own (along with it's IP) that created a following with that audience.
Poison Ivy, Gwen Stacy, and Harley Quinn as standalone movie characters I don't think moves the needle that way to where this movie from several different perspectives (lack of launching pad for characters, dull trailer, quiet advertising/buzz, coming off the heels of The Marvels) doesn't seem like it'll do good numbers.

I think it has enough of the white girls that basic chicks like. Dakota Johnson for the mid 30s freaks, Sidney Sweeney for the teens-early 20s hos and Emma Robert’s for the inbetweens. And Spider-Man themed shyt is the wave right now, all the influencers and cosplayers will prob promote the shyt out this garbage.
