ATT have to be some of the most incompetent around. This was bound to happen to anything they own. They have poor vision and I’m surprised their stock hasn’t completely tanked.

Sony owning Funimation and Crunchyroll :ohhh:

Edit: they on aniplex too?! :dahell:

Those anime series box sets will never go on sale again :picard:

That's been dead. The business model of selling physical copies of anime is what almost killed the industry in the west. Streaming saved it.

I'll admit that I dont follow their every move closely. I also need to clarify that I dont mean that the thread topic itself is a dumb decision. Only that many of the public facing decisions they seem to make are short sighted and/or stupid. The directTV buyout and the killing of their own IP TV services? fukking stupid. Buying Time Warner to and not spinning off the entertainment division (HBO)? Stupid. Constant rate hikes on their online streaming service, to the point that it now costs as much as cable, along with cancellation fees? STUPID. Paring back fiber deployment?? Short sighted.

I'm pretty sure these companies got interested in anime because they still have strong physical media sales

There's some but it's a drop in the bucket. Nowhere near the numbers done in Japan. It's all about digital now and getting subscribers in the west. If you look at stores that 10 years ago had a whole row of anime, they now just have one rack.
