the irony of that statement is that the PLAYSTATION did play a part in this whole affair according a lot of electronics industry experts...
for example SONY CHAIRMAN at the time during the 90's Noria Ogha
who was instrumental in not only introducing the Playstation to the market in 94..but also helped in the creation and development of the COMPACT DISC (CD) was losing patience with SONY's recording label intrests (Columbia, Epic, CBS) as well as it's American Division CEO Tommy Mottola....
The fact of the matter is Mr. Ogha never really had much patience for the American Music Business side of his conglomerate since inheriting his executive position from the Sony cofounder Akio Morita who created the company as a manufactur of Electronic Hardware i.e (televisions, radios etc.)
Ogha was hoping to return the company back to those roots by adding software and mobile to it's repertoire in the form of CD's and Cell Phones...the Recording Industry along with it's "sister industry" Music Publishing carried HUGE OVERHEAD with smaller revenue.
Tommy Mottola job was on the line to prove that being a content provider in Music was still profitiable....and his intent to prove that was to obtain Michael Jackson's half of the lucrative SONY / ATV publishing entitiy to offset Revenue losses
when Tommy failed at that as well as not being able to justify his enourmous Salar as a SONY EXEC ....Tommy was giving the boot

SONY not only lost Revenue with Tommy Mottola vs. Michael Jackson. .they were about to Lose assets
because when Mottola approached MJ about buying his Half of The catalog. ...MJ responded with not only NO!!!
but told Mottola he was gonna Hold out Till 2010 and BUY SONY HALF ....cause he was gonna have mad liquid on hand once his personal catalog (MJJ PUBLISHING) go back to him....,,
but unfortunatly MIKE died in 2009
