Mario Odyssey did like 20 million in sales just recently in 2017. Sonic's best selling game is Sonic the Hedgehog at like 23 million and that was from 1991. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a top 10 best selling game of all time and Mario has 5 games in the top 20 best selling games of all time.

Mario and Sonic could both release games today and Mario would sell double or triple the amount easy.
