I feel the same way. And it's hard to ask for advice since finance people tend to be pretentious and bombard you with unnecessary jargon to further confuse you.
The most important thing is to start small, and build up over time. Nobody in this game gets rich quickly. Nobody! I recommend 401(k) investing for beginners because it's relatively low-risk, it's pre-tax, and your employer matches. Once you kinda get a feel for the market, then you can open an IRA or a brokerage acct and start putting money away there.
