would you rather your daughter have million-dollar paychecks (like Serena) ... or do you want your daughter to have to play ball year-round, 6 months in Europe, 5 months in the US, just to keep the lights on in her apartment?

I'm the one who's being progressive about equal gender rights, not you.

Women like feeling sexy. Women like men wanting them and watching them. I like watching them feel sexy. I like how they like me wanting them and watching them. What's the problem?

....is it that I'm ignoring the intrinsic value of putting a ball in a hoop?

C'mon son. More men would become WNBA fans, and as a result of that, more women would become WNBA fans .... do the math - 1+1, then 2+2 ....

at the end of the day the math says the-coli would be flooded with young women:jawalrus:

Well the problem is that there is a pretty small niche there. While we all would agree that WNBA would be more watchable if the hotter athletes were wearing sexier clothing, most of us still wouldn't be watching it.

If we wanted to see hot girls, there are plenty of better things to watch them do than play basketball. Everything from Nick shows like Victorious to hardcore porn would be a direct competitor and they all have better looking women to offer.

If we just wanted to see athletic girls wearing skimpy clothing, we'd be begging ESPN to bring those fitness/figure competitions back. Evidently there wasn't enough interest to keep those going and those displayed women much better than a basketball game could. The WNBA is just doomed to remain irrelevant in the sports world.

yea ...but it's NOT *JUST* about watching good-looking women....

it's ALSO about watching quality basketball during NBA off-season.

The basketball alone isn't enough to give us our NBA off-season fix

... and porn alone isn't enough to give us our offseason fix....

but together? :whew: Together they have the power to make many of us forget about the NBA completely for a few months every year. Even kids would collect WNBA cards, buy WNBA jerseys ... many players would become household names. ....if it helps, think Anna Kournikova.

You underestimate the fascination the black woman's backside inspires.

I don't know, I don't see it. There are only a few WNBA players that can really get by on their looks. As a whole, they're nowhere near good enough for me to appreciate the basketball aspect and they're nowhere near hot enough for me to watch for that.

If porn can't give you a hot girl fix, seek therapy immediately.

What they wear doesn't change the product on the court in terms of basketball. Shorter shorts and tighter clothes won't make them better players. If you're watching for the primary intent of watching them play basketball, then congrats. You are a WNBA fan. If you're not, the league itself won't help you there. Some of the players might by posing in magazines for whoeveror doing Dancing With the Stars in their spare time, but the league won't go out of their way to go that route to acquire at best, a very casual fan.

The nba should wash its hands of the wnba. Im sure they feel like they are helping build the sport but I dont think its gonna translate into the future dollars that they expect. They arent subject to title ix and I highlyy doubt the WNBA is profitable. With that being said if the WNBA is not profitable then it is additionally bringing down the quality of the NBA because of the financial burden. Not sure why the WNBA is in operation still, particularly because most businesses run to make money. Seems like a charitable organization to me. Not to mention the fact that stern forces espn to air the bullshyt. Id rather watch high school or even quality aau middle school ball than wnba. At least there are prospects for the future there.

Skimpy clothing may cause a brief short term boost in ratings, and could cause a major increase in ratings if the right combination of beauty and talent comes along, but its not pc, wouldnt sit well with the majority of staff and fans, and would probably cause only a nominal amount of new fans to develop an appreciation for the league to the point of spending money.

fukk feminists tho. Literally and figuratively.

You'd be surprised. The Lynx made Glen Taylor more money than the T'wolves did. The WNBA in of itself doesn't affect the NBA's bottom line at all. The WNBA isn't why the league locks out its players every few years.

And no, Stern doesn't force ESPN or NBATV to air ANYTHING related to women's basketball. The channels that show it willingly do so, and let's be honest, it's not as if WNBA games are interrupting anything special going on. If you were dead set on that repeat of E:60 on a weekend afternoon or that riveting billiards exhibition, then the WNBA just might excite you.
