When is it American policy or diplomacy to distance ourselves from exercises of freedom of speech that individuals created under legal means?

Isn't this sending a message of weakness and to give credence to these protests? When is it the policy of our government to denounce any speech as disgusting?

This is just adding fuel to a fire. Its going to empower those people to protest violently every time someone criticizes their religion.

you've never heard an american government official respond to the content of a message? :ohhh: turn on your tv right now

I meant an individuals exercise of art legal under the 1st Amendment rights.

They are speaking for themselves or their party, and not taking a legal stance. Did you see anyone putting Statements to the Vatican when Bill Maher called the Pope a Nazi?

Stupid a$$hole.

What legal stance are Obama or Hillary taking? And yes, if there was a catholic outcry I do believe government officials would say something about it. Why not?

you have a childlike view of the world, despite having seen its darkest natures you retreat to these super conceptual misguided thought when dealing with ideas about it. you don't realize that countries buy ad time in other countries to promote themselves for all sorts of reasons. Not everything is a goddamn abstract debate

You are an Islamist apologist. A part of you enjoys the groveling of our politicians.

They sent federal parole agents to question this man. That and their fukking statements is bordering on taking a legal stance c*nt.

lol @ the emotional insults. what do you think I'm going to do in response, start calling you random names? I'm a grown man breh and you are a father. this whole "islamist apologist ... goveling" thing sounds like some paranoid right wing blogger from 2002.

I won this argument by default before you made this thread because Obama/Hillary/The State department/the embassy are already doing this. Keep trying to parse it out in your mind though. Do us a favor, though; if you join the state department, start thinking about the subtleties.

Again, no statements are given when the Vatican is insulted by artists making Virgin Mary made of shyt, or crucifix in urine, or Maher calling the pope a Nazi.

Its only when idiots protest and commit violence that we Back down.

I can see you have ignored my points.

The fact that we are making these statements, asking Google to take down the video, and sending federal agents to investigate this man is troubling.

I have responded to everything you said. The larger issue here is that you don't pay attention to the workings of international diplomacy outside of this issue so you don't know why it's in keeping with the other stuff they say all the time

Did you think it was troubling when they asked twitter to keep their services running without an update/pause during the iran protests in 09? or are state department requests to internet services with geopolitical ends only troubling to you sometimes.
