Ive had this thought sitting in the back of my mind for a few years now and watching this random Nigerian series on Netflix reminded me

Why the fukk are, specifically, West Africans, Indians, and East Asians not named South Korea STILL producing hamfisted, overly dramatic trash ass emoting "actors" in the year 2020???? These are literally the three biggest markets for movies after Hollywood with hundreds of millions of dollars. These fukks make Mexican soap operas seem like distinguished television

It just hit me that I cant really sit through any TV series thats not American or British/European produced

I know you're goofing, but if I had to analyze it, I would say it's due to two things:

1. Different culture of theater and different heritages of acting. Like, western conceptions of theater and acting go back to ancient greece and shyt. There's been a lot of time to work out theories of acting, set standards for good and bad acting. And you have stuff like Shakespearean drama and method acting and theatre of cruelty etc.
2. A more established heritage of film. Europe and America have been in the business of cinema since the jump, and western actors were able to figure out what worked and what didn't early on. When sound film dropped, for instance, there was a ruthless culling of shytty silent movie stars, and filmmakers/actors were able to establish a naturalistic style of acting for sound film.

South Korean culture is basically Ameirca 2.0.

The places you already mentioned are the centers of technical, traditional theater and the cultures around it have invested a lot into it, thus yielding many seen and respectable talents.

And as another brother had said, for example Nollywood movies be HITTIN for their demographic. Maybe not for you or me but it’s not for us. It does have to fit our or anyone else’s taste because they get the desire result time and time again. That’s the culture there and there’s no need for it to diversify because all parties involved are content.

Not to mention that Europe and North America are polynational entities themselves meaning the talent is literally from everywhere.
