Yeah, someone like McFadden could really improve from some fundamental and sound technical coaching. Dudes technique is trash. Kelly’s biggest issue was our DB play. Even Jalen looked average at times under him.
Can't say that I'm real happy. I'm surprised FSU got turned down by so many people. The concern is he was never a full time DC and he is 51. You'd think he would have gotten a chance years early. Wait and see. I just hope he can erase all the 3rd conversion problem and shytty scheme. I believe he will.

I think Leonhard, T-Rob, and Tucker were just names on the fan base wish list. Not saying Willie didn't want them, but the only coaches to set foot in Tallahassee for interviews are Frey, Harlon, and Dugans. So far, he's 2 for 2 and waiting on Dugans. I think the "turned down by so many people" is overstated. Cats like Newberg running with his horrible sources again had everyone thinking the next DC was still coaching. He's been horrible lately and I think he's the cause for so much panic over hiring timelines and/or unmet expectations with who FSU hired. Willie clearly said he wanted to enjoy the holiday and move his family after the early signing period was over. Yet everyone on twitter claiming they had "sources" saying Willie was talking to this guy or that guy. Harlon signed for 3 yrs/ 3M....so being objective, did you really think they were going to T-Rob or Mel Tucker with 1M/yr? Sounds like a bunch of coaches had their agents inquire about the position, hence the reason Willie said he heard from a bunch of coaches, and those who were willing to still talk after hearing what FSU was willing to pay made Willie's short list. Off that shortlist, I think Willie hit a homerun with this hire.
I don't understand why you're so down on the hire, though. Everyone on the staff can't be youngins. I don't remember "being 51" being a deterrent to the fan base when Leavitt was rumored as the DC. Being a full time DC is also a fugazi measurement when the fan base wanted Leonhard (who's been a DC one year) or T-Rob and Tucker (both who are basically the signal callers for their defensive head coaches Muschamp and Smart). He's basically Jim Leonhard with experience and pedigree (a DB coach turned DC). He's sent multiple DB's to the league, 1st rounders in consecutive years, and got a Thorpe award winner under his belt.....all things that Leonhard has yet to produce. Plus he was responsible for the Tampa area recruiting for MSU, so he knows the lay of the land....something else Leonhard didn't have. So I don't want you, or anyone else in the fanbase to look at this as some kinda disappointment. I think we got a good one. I'm all in.....even though I got caught up in the "sexy" name hustle all the "insiders" fed us all December too.

Since he's been there,Barnett has had a perennial top 10 defense at a school that's never done shyt.This year he had the #7 defense, which was was probably the youngest in the nation. What DC available has those same credentials?
I personally wanted T-Rob simply because of his Florida ties, but numbers show that Barnett is a better coach than all of them. Taggart is putting together a hellava staff

We're living in a sports world where a guy like Lovie Smith can go 10-6 and still lose his job. They don't want any black faces that aren't wearing helmets. I expected this. That's why it's gonna mean so much to me when Tag becomes the first black man to win a NC
