How about you look at the whole story breh? The islamists brought peace to Somalia after 20 years of chaos, what did the Western world do when they saw that? They financed Ethiopia (largest army in East Africa) to start yet another war (going on till now) and ruined the few months of peace the country had witnessed for the first time in decades.

The fukk do I give about African Union soldiers which were mercenaries fighting their own government a few months prior to deployment? :childplease:

wrong. I am from somalia and these islamist b*stards brought everything BUT PEACE to somalia. they are barbaric and criminal and thank god they are on the run. dont be a contrarian just for the sake of it be rational. i really hope whoever is running that twitter dies too.

Islamic Courts had 6 months of peace in 2006. Al Shabab was a part of them though.

Then the Ethiopians came, Xamar was some shid. AMISOM came in 2007 too.

Ethiopians leave in 2009. Amisom still there. Famine in 2011.. Shabab retreats, there's a fragile peace but aint nothin gonna change till we have some sort of national authority that runs everything and the country is on the same page at some point.

I don't believe in either side. The government is slow and Shabab has no vision besides delusions.

no lie the islamic court was actually not bad at all. i actually supported that shiekh awes(sic?) guy and he was, in my view geniuenly interested in a peaceful islamic society which a lot of people could have got behind.

the problem is that people mistake that relative peace and security with that group for al-shabaab's era, which was totally different. they were totally uninterested in the deen and people are not stupid. they started telling women to wear red socks and stupid stuff like that and just did random murders. they even killed my uncle for literally nothing... he refused to pay their extortion on his little auto shop. whatever happens in somalia from here on out, it will be better than what was happening under those psychopaths.

Yeah, Shabab have their HQ in Kismaayo and much of the south and they keep doing this shid thinking people are dumb. Well, you know how Somalida dont play that shid and if someone is telling them what to do without any credibility or with some ridiculus ideas they will turn on them. And the people for the most part have but there's a lot of people that don't have any alternative. Its not like the government is organized or competent or even has the capabilities to take over all of Mogadishu without AMISOM much less anywhere else.

word man its honestly tough to say what is gonna happen but i think we can both agree that as of today 1/16/13 somalia is better off than it was 1/16/12. i really would just like to have somalia as a place where I can visit often and maybe even retire. my mother and the older ones in my family have been many times and i know a lot of people in the city have been but for someone born in the west like me im like

inshallah somalia will turn over a new leaf. allah knows best :blessed:

I know your kidding but lets consider this for a second. The AMISOM was trained by CENTCOM which turned them into a pretty formidable fighting force. The terror group in question once controlled 70% of Somalia, now they do not control a single town and are forced to do extortion heists like a 1930's mob family. The US military does have the capability to do good in an indirect nonintervention capacity... direct conflicts between the military and an ideological opponent of America almost always demonizes America and galvanizes the opponents. Also thinking about drones, I think they are a revolutionary and amazing weapon. They actually restore the fighter to its original role of air-supremacy from a military standpoint, and allow for surgical strikes on smaller targets rather than the JDAM which is a clunky sword to say the least. It's just that it has been used so brashly, so unethically and so immorally for POLITICAL goals by POLITICIANS who are apparently not bound by any laws, rather than for military objectives which are pretty heavily scrutinized.

Yeah I think I jumped the gun, but I tried to differentiate them later on.

From my personal opinion, it seems the US military is quite content with training and funding Somalia's neighbors in some form of containment policy. I personally trained and did military exercises in Djibouti, which by the way is predominantly Muslim as you may know. We were told they were being trained for self defense.

By the way, true story, I spent about 5 days off the shore of Somalia (the ship I was on was chasing some hijacked ship). Don't know how close we were, but I could definitely see the beach and vehicles, as well as fires lit at night. I remember thinking how tranquil it looked, almost like the beach of some resort, but knowing the pseudo-chaos that was going on.

Longest coast line Africa...

Oh and Djibouti just ain't predominately Muslim... its predominately Somali too.. like 60% of the population are ethnically Somali and most of them belong to just a couple of clans. I know it must have been hot as a stove there. I met a lot of dudes who been stationed out there... they still tell me they don't know how "you people survive there"

Oh, I didn't know they were Somalian. That military base though :noah:

Makes sense why were training them then. They had a pretty good military structure, good guys. Officers cared about discipline.

We ended up eating this goat though. Just absolutely anorexic looking goat. Had to suck the meat off the bone (no homo).

Guys wanted to trade beads for a KABAR though.

Good people, fun times.

Thank you breh.

@Brokewave, you're obviously biased due to understandable reasons so there's no point having a discussion with you. I'd just like to think people would be fair and give props where its due, even if it's towards their enemies.

I ain't taking no sides, in one corner you have a group that was loved by all in its beginnings but turned into a way too extreme movement...in the other corner you got a so called government which survives thanks to a foreign army :mindblown:

fukked up country indeed :dead:

You bring up a great point. My line of thinking on this issue is this:

1- you kill a militant/terrorist/insurgent, you do nothing but simply create more of them, as a military solution is usually not the answer to the problem of why those militants exist in the first place. The exception to this of course is if you go straight Hiroshima on them

2- however when you kill whitey, you humble them and make sure they dont try nothing stupid like that again. I dont think youll be seeing the French and Americans lining up to go into Vietnam any time soon

No one is disputing that I think, I certainly am not. My whole issue was the whole ":salute: them because they kill whitey/french". same reason I did not :salute: iraki insurgents when they were killing Americans.

I'll leave Somalis speak on how "peaceful" the country was under islamists, and what kind of peace we are talking about.

Nobody cares about whether you give a f*ck about African Union soldiers, but I am curious as to where exactly do you get your info on the recruitment of AU soldiers breh.
