A Florida man who won a $10 million lottery jackpot claims the lucky numbers came from a fortune cookie.

Richard Davis, 66, of Boca Raton, said he only occasionally plays the lottery, using the same five sets of numbers -- one for each time he visited the eatery -- that came from fortune cookies he received from a North Carolina restaurant, he told the Florida Lottery.


Out of the five tickets he bought recently, he learned one was the winner of the Florida Lotto game jackpot at a Publix grocery store in Boca Raton from the drawing held on Aug. 22. Those fortunate numbers were: 26, 39, 16, 29, 46 and 45.

"I checked and rechecked the ticket several times over the next few days," Davis said in a statement.

Davis claimed his lump-sum payment of more than $7 million Tuesday at Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.



While the Publix grocery store gets a bonus of $50,000 for selling the ticket, the restaurant in Asheville, North Carolina, that served the fortune cookie does not get a commission.

Davis declined to comment to ABC News, according to a spokeswoman for the Florida Lottery."
