Sounds like the business relationship was good until that traffic decline of 500%. Buzznet was probably giving them a slice of ad revenue and when the traffic dried up so too did the kickbacks. Buzznet was just like throw the site in the bushes, but the original owners still want ad money generated and want the site back for that purpose.

So yeah, this not about the users, but the money.
