Andre Ward vs. Sergey Kovalev Could Be The Next Great Boxing Rivalry

There’s nothing better in boxing than when two evenly skilled fighters form a rivalry. That is what is developing between WBA, IBF and WBO light heavyweight champion Andre “SOG” Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) and former champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs).

These two will meet once again in a highly anticipated rematch on Saturday June 17th at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas. The fight will be broadcast live HBO Pay Per View beginning at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT.

When these two fought in November it was a highly contested fight in which Ward eked out a unanimous decision victory, winning on all three judges scorecard 114-113 to take Kovalev’s light heavyweight titles.

Many felt Kovalev deserved the victory since he landed the harder punches, and scored the only knock down of the fight when he dropped Ward with a right cross in the second round. Others thought Ward won because he was able to make adjustments in the mid and late rounds and began working inside and landing shots to Kovalev’s body.

The outcome of the first fight is still being debated today by experts and fans. Well it just over two weeks the rematch will be here and the debate can be put to rest.

It’s rare that you see two elite fighters have a close contested fight, and then agree to have an immediate rematch. So both men and their management teams deserve credit for making it happen.

Ward and Kovalev are in everybody’s top five on the pound for pound list, and some experts may have them one and two. The winner of this fight will have the rightful claimed to be called boxing’s best fighter pound for pound.

Ward is perhaps the most skilled fighter in the sport and hasn’t lost a fight since he was 12 years old. He’s looking to remain undefeated and silence any doubters who felt he didn’t win the last time.

Kovalev, who is one of the hardest of the hardest punchers in boxing, is looking for revenge and to reclaim his titles.

Styles make fights and with these two contrasting styles and game plans, we’re in for another close and competitive fight. With the bad blood that has been building between these two, we’re bound to see more action in the rematch than in the first fight.

Another Gold Medal
The #SOG by 11th round stoppage. I see kov getting so frustrated he either quits or commits a foul to disqualify himself. Furthermore if only everyone in the world were as righteous as the #SOG, the world would be such a better and beautiful place.

Ain't seen you in a minute breh #SOGGang veteran :wow:

just had a dream that i was a watching a big fight live with a few fellas..we were partying and i was in my or some other cat's bathroom , my man shouted for me to cum and to watch round 3 or 6..we all witnessed Kovalev or somebody similar (fictional boxer) stopping andre ward (ward looked different in my dream..more facial hair). We were all in shock mode for like 10 mins..

just saying..:manny:
Had dreams about shyt happening in fights before, makes you feel weird as fukk when you watch the fight really happen. Was it a random dream or do premonitions really happen? I haven't actually had any dreams about fights play out any way close to what ended up being reality.

Kov has to show and prove his mental state in this fight. He talked up the last fight by saying he felt Ward was dirty and he was going to foul him. During the fight he didn't do shyt and after the fight he bytched about Ward's tactics.

If Kov loses and doesn't step up and be physical at all with Ward, we know that Ward owns that man's mind and going forward post Ward I wouldn't be worried about Kovalev physically, but he might show signs of being demoralized mentally.

Despite the first fight being close, I think Kovalev has a lot more to lose than Ward in this fight. Ward seems to be all inside his head.

i tried to recount how this dream with especially the ward v kovalev was in play, but looks like it was random which is why i had to jot it down here!

I had another vivid dream a year or so back regarding an upcoming fight and my dream came out true ..i'm sure @patscorpio can confirm so as he dapped it and gave props.
