I just started in December so I hope there's no bullshyt layoff coming soon :lupe:

I hope you can backtrack successfully on those other offers and enjoy that free cash and go buy yourself something nice.

I think our industry is pretty much shut down until trump gets out of office. Our only chance of stabilization was the fed lowering interest rates and allowing VC and HFs to pump money back into tech. This was the source of the crazy demand for tech people in the last decade.

But judging by how trump has jumped head first into his inflation, i see the fed probably raising rates again. Even worse because Trump has threatened to repeal the chips act (which pumped money into tech in lieu of VC/HF). Even the IT people are screwed because the green new deal and infrastructure act gave them work.

@Rev Leon Lonnie Love and @Water worst case scenario for you is hitting up the temp agencies (accenture, cognizant, randstad, insight global). They pay less but, they will at least give you consistent work because their contracts for any individual employer are short. And they can repeatedly give you contracts. They also are the closest thing to collective bargaining within tech because they leverage so many tech employees under their umbrella , meaning your contracts wont be arbitrarily cut short a month or two after starting.

Somewhat offtopic, but it's ludicrous to me that incredibly educated , and wealthy tech people dont have union with a similar reach as the teamsters. Its insane that tech company can just fire you a month after starting. This doesnt happen in unionized industries

The offshore Indian team at my job built an app that doesn't work and has tons of issues in working with our existing services and they want it out very soon
Now they got us in here trying to fix our shyt so their shyt works :francis:
shyt is all hands on deck for this shyt. Cuz upper management let offshore Indians architect a "crucial" application. Then when the issues popped up they wouldn't alert anyone pretend like the shyt isn't happening...
It's costing them more money to have us fix this shyt than it did building it...

Mfers never learn

Prompt Engineering is the Computer Science. :francis:

Does anyone here think that the anti-DEI push is causing you to lose your jobs? Not just the economy?
Luckily I'm shielded. I complain about too much work, but i is a blessing. Even as other teams get let go and made redundant, especially as we're finally intergrating with this merger (our company kind of got acquired)

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
I’ve been working on a desktop software application for the past 6 or so months. The core features are anti-forensic data deletion, AES encryption/decryption. I was originally going to release it as a paid subscription which required purchasing a product key. But I’m going to release it for free in the next few months. I’m going to add a p2p messenger to it first. When it’s done I’m going to post it here.. I need all the downloads and testers with feedback I can get :sadcam:

I starting building an enterprise version which will have way more features/services. I want to target government and commercial clients, which will require getting numerous certifications. And since its will cost well over $1 million to get them, I’m going to seek out seed capital once I have an MVP for the enterprise version.

I used Python to build the first iteration but it was too slow. Then I tried C++ but it was too complicated to work with. Then I tried Rust/Tauri/Svelte. I finally built the free version with Go/Wails/Svelte. Since the enterprise version will require more performance I’m building it with Rust/Tauri/Svelte.

I’ve worked with so many platforms/frameworks/tech over the past 8-9 months :mjcry: doing this shyt solo is a drag. You have to think of every little detail. I finished the free version back in early February, but I’ve been constantly making revisions after testing.

The enterprise version will be A mix of Microsoft Teams meets WhatsApp meets Dropbox. It will probably take over a year to build. But I’m exploring more AI alternatives besides ChatGTP/Claude.
