Check this out, the books are quality.

Anyone here work as a sales engineer/solutions architect/solutions engineer or another similar role dev/client facing role?

I currently work as a solutions architect and im looking to leave the current company I work earliest when i hit my 1 year mark in October 2020 but the latest Q1 2021. I essentially do pre sales and post sales non technical engineering and a few other things. luckily my company gives me the freedom to spend 30% of the time on personal projects where I do programming, so far im writing scripts to automate tasks we do at work and I also spend time at home brushing up on my programming skills. I got a bachelor in management information system so know the basics of computer science.

The dilemma im having now is im not really sure what job I want to go for once i leave my current one as it's kind of jack of all trades. But I want to plan accordingly so once i start job hunting i have the skills needed for the industry

My gameplan over the next 10 months or so is to:
improve programming skills
improve terminal skills
improve git skills
Learn react
Learn docker and kubernetes

Those are the skills im seeing being posted for those type of jobs in general and software development. 1. Do you guys recommend any additional framework/tool or skills I should learn 2. Do you guys have any recommendation for specific jobs i should look for apart from the above i mentioned? I don't think im able to land a Soft dev job unless I go hard but i can land something similar

Truth is pound-for-pound you have to work harder and you have to be better than your peers.

They should look at the "diversity" hires in boardroom but they will never do that :mjpls: .

Personally I would ignore it and keep on pushing forward but we are all different and I probably would have let it get to me when I was younger :sadcam: .

If they keep providing technical solutions for the people who need technical solutions within the company they will be fine ... :wow: More than fine even :ehh: .

Where I am 90% of the staff hate my guts and they do their best to show it :picard: . It makes things more difficult but they can do nothing about me being here :myman: as long as I keep solving problems for the people in charge.

The other brown people here are cleaners and janitors. When I see them I greet them warmly so they know that I am on their side. One cousin-reah got into the elevator with her off-white boss. Cousin-reah and I greeted each other with a smile. Off-white boss, while holding a mop now :mjlol:, tried to play off as if she was too important to even acknowledge me.

Me being the kid that never grew up, smiled and said to off-white (in their language) "Oh my :picard: mopping is hard work. Poor you :myman:" while giving her the :troll::troll::troll:.

I’ll say I don’t see my people. I see Asians(developers, some middle and upper management) and white folk (management). I’ll tell you I gotta work extra hard at killing those perceptions. Nikkas speaking different language and shyt. This is why I don’t want to get into management.

If you have to work harder, GREAT. Why? Because it makes you a better programmer and if you are a top notch programmer who actually has taken the time to cultivate some sort of online presence, companies will be fighting over you. They might assume you are a diversity hire at first, but when you start demonstrating your expertise over and over, you WILL get respect. If it's not at your current company, it will be at another company that will be eager to bring you on. Companies are at no lack of finding devs. They are at a lack of finding SKILLED devs and have to sort through hoards of devs they feel don't cut the mustard. If you are someone who demonstrates that they know what they are doing, you almost can write your own checks.

In reality, we have to stop expecting other races to do for us what we should be doing for ourselves. Indians have effectively taken over tech mainly because they work together and hire each other. Just about all of the big companies I've worked at have IT departments that are majority Indian. If you are super skilled, sooner or later you will be put in positions to bring on other devs, thereby giving you an opportunity to rectify the situation.
