Well George HW Bush pardoning the Iran Contra folks was very controversial since they were pretty much his boys and were involved in illegal arms smuggling. Granted public opinion, especially on the right would howl more at Mumia or Assata, but maybe he gives two craps at this point.

I personally doubt Assata though since it seems the FBI has been making moves to have her extradited if Cuban relations (diplomatic and economic) are fully restored.
