They were the perfect counter against the Warriors... Durant and Westbrook could attack the paint as well as anyone and GS was weak on rim protection....
Warriors had no answer for Adams in that series
That's what people are missing. It is NOT possible for Westbrook to get matched up with another superstar who could more perfectly complement him and was more willing to put up with his shyt than Durant was. He will never, ever find a partner that good in the league. AND they had Ibaka, Kanter, and Adams all ravaging every team they played against in the playoffs.
That was the peak Westbrook situation. He ain't finding anyone as good as Durant and with as filled out a roster who is also going to be willing to put up with his shyt. He's too inefficient and too poor at decision making to be the #1 for a champ, and he can't subvert his game below a suitable #1 in an intelligent manner. Not to mention that he's one of the worst superstars you could possibly have in clutch, game-ending situations, because he can't shoot AND he can't make good decisions with the ball AND he wants the ball in his hands anyway.
Any team with Westbrook is going to be stuck.
They have a legit point guard, and legit forwards. Westbrook could do wonders with that young athletic squad.
Wonders? The Lakers are nothing compared to what he already had in 2012 or 2016.
but you can build a championship team around russ. all he needs is four shooters that can play D, aint nobody stopping him 1 on 1.
Surround ANYONE good with four shooters who play D and he'll feast. But it's a joke that you're going to find someone like that at every position.
Just look at Lebron. He would DOMINATE far more than Westbrook if you could magically find four shooters to play D around him. Instead, nearly everyone they find is a defensive specialist who can't shoot worth a damn when it matters (Tristan, Shump, Delly, Liggins) or a shooter who can't play a lick of D (Love, Frye, McRae, Korver, James Jones, Felder). Even Kyrie can't defend the pick-and-roll at all and generally is below average on defense against everyone other than Steph. Basically the only clear "3 and D" guy that Lebron has is JR, and people laughed when JR was coming to the Cavs even though they got him for almost nothing.
Actual shooters who can play D are rare enough that if you can find four of them to stack around a superstar, you've found the holy grail no matter who that superstar is. But a team with a 2/3/4/5 who can all magically do both those things at once ain't walking through the door for Westbrook.
You don't think you can build a team around him??
Bron done made a living out of having nothing but shooters around him. Hell, Dwight got to a finals off the same strategy
Because Lebron has one of the top bball IQ's in the league with which to distribute to those shooters, whereas Westbrook has maybe the worst bball IQ of any superstar perimeter player I've ever seen, certainly any superstar point guard. And Lebron could clean up for a lot of defensive lapses that Westbrook can't. Not to mention, you know, that Lebron is twice the player that Westbrook ever was
This is such a dumb post. He can't shoot but he is a SCORER, which means he can get hot from anywhere. And whatever deficiencies he has from 3 he makes up for by getting to the free throw line. You act like Westbrook is rondo. Give this dude Klay THOMPSON and a stretch 4 and it will be a problem. He's doing all of this now with a shrunken floor because teams don't respect his surrounding players. Imagine how tough he would be to stop with a wide open floor to operate.
What good is it to "get hot from anywhere" 1/3 of the time if you're going to be cold from everywhere the other 2/3 of the time?
This is Westbrook's shooting chart. He's below-average from everywhere but the elbows, and straight cold as hell from the entire right side.
How would Westbrook fit into the spurs system without NOT being westbrook?
Lowkey a player like Russ isn't built to win a championship. That's the elephant in the room. Even if you surround him with role players who can shoot and play defense. He's not carrying a team to a championship with his high usage, trigger happy approach because he isn't an elite or even good shooter.
You can't win with Westbrook as your best player. Pointless thread
What elite team or teams with title aspirations can he join that will allow him to dominate the ball as much as he does and be succesful?
If he grows up and develop a basketball IQ and the ability to sacrifice his game for the greater good of his team then he could join damn near half the team in the league and make them instant champions.
All truth.
You can't win with Westbrook as your best player, and you don't want him as your second-best player....so how do you win?
