If a college coach publicly says that one of his players isn't ready for the NFL, you might have a problem.

If Jets didnt make it to the AFC Championship game in 09 and 10.... Sanchez wouldnt been starting the whole season. Im not defending Sanchez because he is terrible but if you were Rex Ryan and you had a QB who managed games and got you to TWO championship games, you wouldnt ditch him now would you?Rex stayed with Sanchez out of loyalty. Now that Jets been eliminated and Rex is on hot seat....now he wants to bench him.Its all good when the player is garbage and the team is winning...but when that said garbage player cause you to lose...its a different story.

sanchez is what he is.....a game manager .....his 1st 2 years he had a good running game, decent o-line and recievers. Each year these elements have gotten progressively worse. Instead of building around him for success ...they get more defense...Tebow....man fukk it....i'm out:sadbron:

High-profile bust, especially at the QB position, should serve as a cautionary tale for the league on traits to avoid in a prospect. What can we learn from the Mark Sanchez experience?

There are many things we can learn, but I have narrowed it down to these 3 for me...

1) Don't give a huge contract to a QB who hasn't earned it with their play.
If a QB is horrible, he is horrible. And there is no shame in immediately trying to find his replacement. See Carolina with Jimmy Clausen.

2.) Build the scheme to fit the quarterbacks's skillset.
How many times do we see a square peg being squeezed into a round hole? If you're QB fits a WCO, run a WCO. Pretty simple concept.

3.) Put pieces around him to succeed.
If that means completely ignoring the defense for a year, do it. In this day and age, a franchise QB trumps everything.
:snoop: a defense IS 'a piece around him', genius

The organization is probably the most vital thing to a QBs success.

fukk hitting the reset button, the Jets just need to unplug and go buy a new system. The entire Jets organization needs to be purged.

If Stephen A is right about one thing, they need to look at bringing in Bill Polian. He's really good at getting good starter pieces.

:pacspit:

The Lions need to go after Polian, not the Jets. :mjpls:

To build on this you just have to have the right staff in place look at some of those guys you listed under bad d and the teams they went to and the state of not just the D but the whole organization at the time.

Rams? :stopitslime:
Lions?
Bengals? :beli:
Raiders? :heh:

I think GM and ownership is the first thing you gotta look at when doing this sort of thing. The top organizations have a great staff from the front office to the coaching staff. People forget Rodgers inherited a team that had JUST been to the NFCCG the year before.

thats true

BUT

point is qbs have to have a good atmosphere to be able to 'grow' and progress. and since teams with good defense and lines provide that...its a natural correlation

there isnt a SINGLE QB post-peyton whod have shytty defense behind him in the first few years of his career and whod then turn it on and become elite.

cant think of a single one. brees is the only one who might be close but he had a very good D in SD.

If you're making a decision that is not related to the potential success of the team on the field, then it's most likely not going to be a wise decision. Woody has been burned twice on getting a QB for reasons completely unrelated to football.

The big lesson is to not go to a team that stopped worrying about winning as opposed to just being talked about. The lesson is to not throw your Offensive Coordinator under the bus only to downgrade. The only reason to have gotten Tony Sporano was to only use him if you were flirting with the idea that Tebow would start should things go south. The lesson is to not draft primarily defensive players when there are glaring holes in your offense live and WR corp, not to mention not trying to upgrade at runningback (well luckily Bilal Powell could be a potential answer).
