Demographically, Repubs' hold on Texas won't last in the long term. The Dems there are flabby and sick, but that's because they don't have good leadership. This is exactly the kind of galvanization they needed. They won't be able to get rid of her so easily if she succeeds in energizing her party, which she looks to be doing.
I see Texas as remaining a republican state at most into the next presidential election. Not sure if people have noticed but in the last 3 years there has been a pretty large influx of hispanics, middle easterners, and asian into texas...who generally vote democrat ( will maybe not the middle easterners )
I live in the dallas area and you can just feel the entire change in the area...all throughout dallas, las calinas, frisco, plano...especially plano i went out there earlier last week and it was really a minute before i saw a place that was just predominately white...
even the corporate office has changed...i remember when people (redneck white ) would just openly talk about obama ruining this country openly at work...but now there is this random Filipino dude at his desk with a big ass "I love Obama" poster in it...and there is this random British chick who is a lesbian and has just all these random pictures of her and her girlfriend at Lilith Fair...and this random whit guy from California who married some Ugandan chick and has a picture of him and her with two kids from whatever Warlord she was with before she moved to the state, and the picture says "the darkest juice is the sweetest juice"...them redneck republicans be like...
...and them demoncrats be like
I mean...white man can't even be in peace in Redneck Heaven anymore...went up in there with some dudes and it was just about all blacks and asians in there...redneck white man is running out of places in texas to be a redneck white man...
it won't become democratic overnight...but before it can it must first get an influx of non democratic minorities...and that is definitely happen in the lone star state...
