BLACK HISTORY

The savagery you’re seeing in Gaza.
That’s how the British, Spanish, French and Portuguese colonised the Americas.
Settler colonies are founded on ethnic cleansing + extermination, a process which only ends when the natives are either wiped out or potential for resistance ends.

“Like many free Ppl of Color w/
ish last names, Finella’s relationship to the organized Jewish community was ambiguous. Free mixed-race women like Finella sometimes took or inherited the last names of former Jewish owners.”

“Other times the presence of a Portuguese
ish last name, indicates a
ish father who recognized his mixed-race kin. In addition to being an important Sephardic family on the island, the Abarbanells were one of the ‘oldest & most distinguished Spanish families”

“The Barbados branch of the Abarbanell family had close connections to Suriname and Amsterdam.
Finella’s will also reveals the complex relationship between free Ppl of Color on the island and slavery.
..about 1/5 free PoC owned slaves, the vast majority of whom were women.”

“In owning 6 slaves, Finella owns slightly more than the average free PoC, who typically owned only three or 4 slaves.
Finella also fits the general pattern of owning more female than male slaves.”

“Finella also fits the general pattern of owning more female than male slaves. (F) slaves cost less than (M) slaves, but also – as Finella’s will bears witness
– (F) slaves were often (AB)USED as an investment, since slaves’ offspring belonged to the owner of the mother.”

Before I continue..
It’s important to understand that the ONLY reason why a distinction was made between Arawaks & Caribs, is bc the Spanish colonizers that invaded S-America/Caribbean categorized the hostile Amerindians as Caribs and the ones they viewed friendly as Arawaks.
