It isn't necessary, but in my head I think anyone can make themselves irreplaceable as an employee if they have the skillset to interact with data from the time it is raw data, up until data is put in context for C-Level employees. So basically the ability to ingest, clean, retrieve, automate, analyze and present data. I think if you walk into a job interview with that pitch (and the skillset to back it up), it is hard to say "no" as an employer.

1. Database administration skills tackle ingesting and cleaning data
2. Learning the SQL language tackles data retrieval
3. Learning VBA tackles automating clean data
4. Learning Statistical Analysis tackles data analysis
5. Learning a course on dashboards in Excel tackles data presentation OR Learning a course on Power BI tackles data presentation

Interested to hear other people's perspective as well. The only other advice is to see this as a long term plan. If you start jumping from one goal to another, you will not attain the skillset at any of the steps above. It is better to be really good at one and then learn another skillset than to be shytty at all of them.
