When you say 'economy fails' you're imagining some apocalyptic mad max type of shyt, complete lawlessness. That's not what the video is adressing.
If such an event would happen then yes, gold would be useless. The only valuable things would be those related to survival(food, medicine supplies, fuel) and violence.
